, everyone, almost good evening, and welcome to san francisco city hall. i'm supervisor scott wiener. i have the honor of representing district 8 including the castro on the board of supervisors. and which district are formerly represented by harvey milk. supervisor olague likes to remind me we share the district 5 represented by milk. and we're here today to remember supervisor harvey milk and mayor george moscone who were brutally assassinated decades ago. and we gather every year to remember, and not just to remember and to mourn, but also to remember the positives and to remember frankly both of these great men and what they contributed to our community. you know, with respect to harvey milk, there will never, ever be another harvey milk in our community in terms of what he represented for our community in terms of a step forward. we are now elected lgbt peep to office and harvey was such an incredible trail blazer, not? in just getting elected, but in being a great leader and always holding his head high for our community. and i know when i was first sworn into office, one of the things

years where struggle and just representing people who wanted to make the city much more equality bent was where i felt. and i feel today that if mayor moscone and harvey milk were here, they'd be pretty proud of what we've been able to accomplish in those years. seeing how mayor brown became mayor and my lucky charm of being now the first asian mayor of the city, understanding -- thank you. . and he had an immense pride in the city and county of san francisco like no other. i suspect that much of my love of the city comes from my exposure to george in those very early years. george went through a considerable amount of evolutionary process politically. he allowed john burton to talk him into running for the state legislature. an unsuccessful effort for the state assembly. he went on to become, obviously, a supervisor in the city and county of san francisco. and in those days it was a different city. it was dramatically different. there was no such thing as a so-called progressive, david campos. there was no such thing as somebody in that category. george moscone, philip burton, represented that which we all now richly enjoy. george went on to become a state senator. and in that capacity, scott, it was george moscone who shepherded the bill that removed criminal penalties between consenting adults in this state that cost people their positions as teachers, as doctors, as nurses, as lawyers in those days. it was a bill that we orchestrated together. and george did what has ne

housing data out tod home prices rose 4.3% in the 12 months ending in october in a 20-city composite, beating analysts' forecasts. it did appear as 12 of the 20 cities in both composites posted monthly declines in october. david blitzer will join us in just a few minutes to go over this data. bottom line here, better than expected. maybe this is enough to keep this sector going. a very strong sector in consumer discretionary overall. home builders have really been a double in 2012. >> it wasn't until the second half of this word that you started hearing the words housing and gdp growth in the same sentence. perhaps the most significant part of the economy for so much of the early parts of the 2000s. we'll see. they do call it a sustained recovery. that is, s&p-case schiller, and the recovery continues to gather strength. >> the best performing sector, though, financials. >> financials, yeah. >> 26% on financials. utilities the only one lower for the year. nine out of ten s&p sectors higher. that doesn't happen a whole lot. >> no. >> when we come back, christmas day may be over, but w

be careful on the roadways. snow showers and flurries could make it into the boston and new york city area but the i-95 corridor is not expecting any accumulation. enjoy the quiet weather because monday and tuesday forks christmas day, messy weather across portions of the northeast. first out west, this is where we have a storm picking the region right now with strong winds, the lower elevation rain and we're talking feet of snow across the sierra. good news for anyone wanting to do skiing but if you are doing traveling out on the roadways on interstate 5 or parents we're talking about delays possible not just for today but even as we head into tomorrow with yet again another area of low pressure. it will be producing more snow, more rain and more strong winds across the west. big issues along west coast but tomorrow, we'll start to see rain in the southeast spreading into tennessee and ohio valley. by monday, christmas eve the northeast dealing with more rain and some of you will be cold enough for snow, temperatures, 31 in cleveland and 32 in chicago and 27 in the city of minneapolis. he
